Went to church at the La Molina Ward. Lots of Americans there. All the mission presidents are in that ward (they all live in the same high rise building), as is the temple president, the 2nd counselor, Jim Lemmon, a guy that works for the DEA, and a guy who works in the embassy, and the attorney for the church in the area.
Hermano Guzman came up to me and we chatted for a few minutes. He was converted by Dodd Hyer from our ward when Dodd was a missionary in Bolivia. He and his wife are serving as executive secretary to the area president (Carlos Amado - I lived in the Amado home when I served in Zona 5 in Guatemala). His kids live in Las Vegas and when Stan Neilson was bishop, Stan performed the marriage ceremony for one of Brother Guzman's son's and interviewed another for the Melchizedek priesthood just a couple of weeks ago. Hermano Guzman and his wife have visited in our ward before and I had met him them.
A couple of the mission presidents were there; there are four in Lima. President Weston was out of town dividing a branch. A couple of the other mission presidents was there; one, President Lindstrom, is from Boise and knows David Rands. The other mission president, President Morris, served in the Guatemala-El Salvador mission from 70-72, and lived in the Arizona area and knows a lot of the same people as Stan Neilson.. Small world in the LDS church.
Had a great visit with Jim Lemmon. He was mission president in Guatemala about 5 years ago. He had been home about 18 months and the church tracked him down at a wedding reception in Idaho and asked him to go to Peru to work in the temple. They said he had 10 days. But it took 76 days to get the visa arranged. He has been there for 15 months and is scheduled to go home in February or March.
After church we walked to Jim's home. His wife was ill so we didn't stay. They we walked to the temple and took some pictures. Taxi back to hotel and walked to nearby mall and had lunch (hamburger at "Bembo's").
Late night flight to Vegas. Arrived Monday morning at 9:00 a.m.. Josh picked us up and took us home.
