Hello from Sendai
It is now 4:00 a.m. approximately Nevada time
Thursday morning. We were up at 3:30 a.m. to get ready for our flight. Here
in Sendai it is only 8:00 p.m. Thursday night. Sherrie is upstairs in bed
asleep and I just returned from a walkabout. Actually I went across the street
to a 7-11! And right next to the hotel is a place called a Mad Max Hard Rock.
I walked inside and it is nothing more than a slot casino! I think I must
have slipped through a time warp and ended up back in Las Vegas.
So far, we have had a great time. Flights on time and lots of mediocre food.
Actually it tasted ok, but they just kept feeding us on the SFO-Tokyo flight.
The plane to Sendai was a prop plane and when we left they said there was
a chance we might have to turn around and return to Tokyo because of bad weather
in Sendai. But it turned out ok, just lots of clouds. It is pretty warm and
humid here. The language hasn:t been a big barrier, in fact, it hasn:t been
a problem at all. (The keyboards are different here, so you may see some weird
spellings, etc., but I am hurrying because it costs 100 yen for ten minutes...about
85 cents.)
We took a taxi from the airport and when I showed him the address and map
that I had printed from the hotels website, he was a bit perplexed and had
to confer with three other buys for aboutfive minutes before we finally left.
But we arrived just fine.
Sendai seems like a fairly large city with a fair amount of construction going
on. Lots of schoolkids in uniforms riding bicycles.
I am going to crash so this email is going to be pretty short.
I am using my gmail accountbecause it is more functional when it comes to
addressing, etc. I will check the cox.net account, however, so if you reply,
use either account.
Hope all is well, we are getting excited to see Rebecca. We meet her at the
mission home tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.
Love,
Dad
